Project Description
LifeScan, Inc. is a Johnson & Johnson (J&J) company with headquarters in Chesterbrook, Pennsylvania and Zug, Switzerland. LifeScan manufactures and markets Blood Glucose Monitoring Systems like the OneTouch Ultra family for home and hospital use. The company philosophy is to “create a world without limits for people with diabetes." The company’s products are focused on disease management for Diabetes.
LifeScan also has facilities in Inverness, Scotland; Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada; and Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Animas Corporation of West Chester, Pennsylvania, acquired by Johnson & Johnson in 2006, reports to LifeScan. Animas produces and develops insulin pumps for people with diabetes.
Originally based in Milpitas California, LifeScan pioneered portable personal blood glucose meters for patients to manage their diabetes. Rather than rely on doctor’s office visits and lab blood test results taken weeks to months apart, a LifeScan personal blood glucometer can be carried by a patient and multiple test results per day became practical. Patients could then be more informed and involved in the management of their diabetes. More information leads to better and quicker decisions and behavior modification. Managing a loved one’s diabetes becomes practical. Dealing with childhood diabetes becomes easier.
The principals of our company were tapped by LifeScan to design and develop two industry leading applications.
- The first Consumer Data Management System for Diabetes disease management, InTouch.
- The first Hospital Data Management System for Diabetes measurements, DataLink.
